About
Welcome to the culinary gem known as Mexita, nestled in the vibrant heart of Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico. Located at Federico Ortiz Armegol 105, Reforma, this eatery has quickly become a beloved destination for food enthusiasts seeking authentic Italian flavors with a twist of local charm.
At Mexita, the rustic allure of Italian cuisine comes alive, especially through their acclaimed Neapolitan-style pizzas cooked to perfection in a traditional wood-fired oven. Customers rave about the freshness of the ingredients, from the beautifully crafted thin crust to a wide assortment of toppings that cater to every palate. As one satisfied diner, Brent Parsons, noted, the pizza is not just amazing; it’s “probably the best pizza I’ve tried.” The dishes exude quality, supported by thoughtful touches like the freshly baked bread served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It's these details that hint at the restaurant's dedication to a high-caliber dining experience.
The ambience fosters a casual, family-friendly atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for both intimate dinners and lively gatherings. As you savor your meal, prepare to be transported straight to Italy. The flavors are rich and authentic, as evidenced by diner Cathy Baeshore's experience with the pasta, which perfectly complemented her glass of Montepulciano red wine.
Another highlight is the array of exquisite pasta dishes, with options that showcase the best seasonal ingredients. Annie Xiong enthused about the rich and savory mushroom pasta, elegantly made with out-of-this-world fresh mushrooms. Each bite resonates with the charm and authenticity of Southern Italian cooking, solidifying Mexita as a must-visit culinary stop in the city.
Whether you’re a pizza aficionado or a lover of fine pasta, Mexita offers something special for everyone. The combination of delightful dishes, unique atmosphere, and diligent service guarantees a memorable experience. Next time you’re wandering through Oaxaca, make sure to venture a little off the beaten path for pizza that rivals the best Europe has to offer—because at Mexita, every meal is a celebration of flavor.
“ Amazing pizza, probably the best pizza I’ve tried. Everything tasted fresh and the portion was spot on. It’s well worth the walk/taxi out of the center to eat at this place. They brought out some nice bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar which indicates a good quality restaurant, and some great chilli oil with the pizza. My partner had ravioli and claimed it was excellent also. ”
“ Excellent authentic pizza Neoplitan style, in wood fired oven great dough and wide assortment of toppings . Great service and nice secluded atmosphere , really worth the effort if you love great southern Italian style food. ”
“ A family place. Very casual. I ordered the pasta with butter and cheese. My husband ordered the pasta with mushrooms. We felt like we were in Italy as the flavors were so good. We enjoyed glasses of Montepulciano red wine. The pizza looked and smelled delicious, so we are going back again to try it tomorrow night. ”
“ 100% the best Italian food in the city and very reasonably priced. The pizza dough is beautifully done. Thin crust with great flavour from the pizza oven. We got the mushroom pasta which was rich and savoury. It's mushroom season so the mushrooms were out of this world fresh. The calamari is also really well done (light and breaded well with a great tomato sauce). If you order a salad, you might need to order extra dressing on the side since it doesn't come with much (I'd recommend one of the salads with fruit). The restaurant is a little north of the city centre but absolutely worth the extra trek. You MUST eat here if you want good Italian food in the city. ”
“ Really good pizza!!! We are used to good pizza living in Europe and this was up there !! ”
“ We came back 3 times in the week we were staying in Oaxaca. They serve one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten! And their salads and pasta are excellent too. All the staff are smiling and friendly... We cannot recommend this place highly enough. Six Stars ”
“ As close as you’ll get to Italy on this side of the pond. Best Italian... in probably all of Mexico! Chef is from Naples, he is passionate about his craft and it shows in each dish from pizzas to pasta to salads. Nice restaurant in Reforma with a family-feel, attentive staff & Italian flare. Great wine selection as well! Such a great spot when you want to change it up from traditional Oaxaca cuisine or if you’re passing by and want a taste of Italy. ”
“ Backpacker from Singapore & Germany: this was the best Italian food we had in Mexico, and dare say on-par with GOOD Italian food in Italy!! Pizza was Napoli standard. Pastas were generous and absolutely amazing. If you told me I was in Italy, I would believe you!! Bonus: I asked for a tiramisu with a candle after food for my bf’s bday, and when the bill came, the tiramisu was free and not in the bill This place is an absolute Gem. We were very happy, Muchos Gracias ”
